Dont forget! Bucks for Books: Scholarship Essay Writing Workshop Series this Summer!
With the cost of college expenses rising every year, many qualified but financially disadvantaged students are struggling more and more to cover finance their higher education.
In many cases, grants, loans and even parental contributions offered to students will not cover the full cost of attending their college or university. This means that students will have to take the initiative to close the gap with the assistance of scholarships. There are thousands of scholarships offered to students for many different reasons. However, most scholarships will require students to answer essay questions that explain their current circumstances, academic and career goals.
With that in mind, the Spot will work in collaboration with former Gates Millennium Scholarship reader, Jordan Belran Gonzales and Justina Luong, a former Gates Millennium Scholarship recipient from Oakland High School to assist students in writing scholarship essays. Each Bucks for Books workshop will focus on two actual questions from the Gates Millennium Scholarship application and our facilitators will also offer professional and personal insights and experiences to students about their process as a reader and applicant. Also, the essay questions asked by the Gates Millennium Scholarship are very similar to those that are asked by many other foundations and scholarship donors so students of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Our Bucks for Books workshop dates are as follows:
July 5 from 4:00-5:30
July 19 from 4:00-5:30
August 2 from 4:00-5:30
August 16 from 4:00-5:30
We encourage participants to attend each workshop to understand the different types of scholarship essay questions but this not a requirement.
Current high school and college students of all ages are encouraged to attend. Parents are most definitely welcome too!
